65th Jubilee Plate Tournament - Yes, it's been five years since our last Jubilee tournament, and the Club is delighted to advise that the next invitational tournament in the series will be held on 4 September 2021. Check out the details here.
May 2021 (Adult Club) - The regular badminton season is now in full swing. The cost for casual play from that date is $5 per week. Our AGM was held recently, where it was decided to keep the Membership Fee for the regular season at $30.
Covid-19 Update: Our part of the country will be at Alert Level 1 when this week's Club Night takes place. We will running badminton as planned. Contact tracing is supported via a QR Code poster for use with authorised Tracing apps on mobile phones.
May 2021 (Junior Club) - Our Junior Badminton sessions has not been taking place as we filled the recently vacated position of Junior Coordinator. The good news is that we've identified a suitable candidate, who will run the weekly sessions from the beginning of term 2 in 2022. However, because we can't run any sessions this year, we are directing enquiries about this to Waikanae Badminton Club, who's contact details are shown below (in the Useful Links section). They run Junior sessions on Tuesdays.
December 2018 (Global and Association) - New rules for Serving came into force globally from this date, and have subsequently been accepted by Badminton New Zealand. Rule 9.1.6 the whole shuttle shall be below 1.15 metres from the surface of the court at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket. Check out the Video.
A Fad, or Here to Stay ? (Global) - AirBadminton (check this video) is an ambitious new development project, which has been designed to create the ability for people of all ages and skills, to play badminton on hard, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches around the world. As an adventurous Club, we're keen to trial this new initiative, and report back on our experience. The specially designed shuttles required for serious outdoor play, have just become available for testing, which we'll do shortly. We'll provide an update on how this testing goes, just as soon as possible.
